Dear Budding Lift Engineer

Lift engineers up and down the country are earning big money, some who own large lift installation companies are millionaires. Others just drift from job to job scraping by earning far less, often years into their careers and somehow missing the boat! I receive calls from people all over the UK thinking of a career change who also find it increasingly difficult to get into the lift industry - those that do, often do it all wrong!

As a lift engineer recruitment, training & development expert my team and I currently work with well over 100 of the best known clients every month, month in, month out, these include finding suitable lift trainee candidates for immediate job vacancies, all over the UK.

Our training course starts with 5 months of classroom based block release training, and for those that want to proceed a further 4 years of onsite training working alongside other lift engineers covering servicing, repairs, installation and some testing of lifts too.

You will complete your lift engineering apprenticeship training with Training Centre Direct and your employer will be our sister company NALO (The Nationwide Academy of Lift Owners) which is your lift engineering training agency. NALO will help and support you throughout your 4 years of onsite training, until you’re NVQ Level 3 qualified.

Depending on our funding contracts, you can enjoy full funding support for us to deliver this training and we can guarantee job interviews with a number of host employers.

I look forward to working with you!

James, 28, did not have a job at the start of the course and his last job was unskilled working in stock control.

Please read his written testimonial below:

Training Centre Direct were brilliant, they put on a 4 week lift mate training course, supplied safety equipment, and I managed to get full time permanent employment with Hydratec Lifts, they are a specialised hydraulics lift repair company and work direct for most of the lift companies in the UK.

I had 15 separate job interviews and actually got picked by 3 or 4 different companies, I chose Hydratec Lifts as they seemed to me the biggest lift company and long established. They have even put me on further lift training as they even have a training lift in their head office where I have learnt about hydraulic valves, tank units and ram seals.

I was previously out of work for about 12 months but now my future is much better with career options. I can’t thank TCD enough, they must have had 6 or 7 staff members all looking after everyone in the class and it was a very professionally run course.

James Kinzett.

Danny, 23, was a trainee bricklayer and completed our new lift engineer training in July 2013, he was originally not in work and registered as unemployed.

Please read his written testimonial below:

I have completed a lift training course at Training Centre Direct, and with their help I managed to get a good job repairing and installing lift equipment.

I would still be without a job and without any good prospects if it wasn't for them helping me to get trained, and also having lots of job interviews as well.

I now work all over the UK, and help my lift employer with any jobs that come in, and I am really enjoying working full time as a platform lift engineer.

Danny Johnson.

Jack, 20, was a labourer and also delivered parcels, but being out of work for 12 months, he was given new skills to get a job.v

Please read his written testimonial below:

Training Centre Direct and all the staff really helped me to get and find work, after completing my 4 week lift training course. After I finished my course there was not a current job opportunity so they helped me and put me on a 2nd lift employer, and I am now working for Liftec Lifts which is a big lift company in Dartford.

During the course with TCD they taught me about wiring circuits and different lift components, they even supplied all the PPE I needed when onsite. Without their help I doubt if I would ever end up in a job like this as I was previously out of work for over a year before coming on the course.

Thank you to all the staff at TCD.

Jack Moody.

Sean 18, was previously studying at college for a city and guilds in electrical instillation, he had already completed a level 3 diploma in electrical engineering.

Please read his written testimonial below:

I was given the opportunity to do a 3 day lift engineering training course with TCD in June 2013.

TCD helped me with gaining confidence, training and setting up an interview with a local employer who were interested in the new skills I had learnt, and after a successful interview I now have been offered an apprenticeship with a lift company.

I will be working all over London area repairing and maintaining lifts and work with other lift engineers on the company.

I am extremely grateful to TCD for all they have done for me as without them I wouldn't have had the opportunity to work with the lift employer.

Sean Gleeson.

Michael, 21, worked as a barman and waiter before he came on our new lift engineer training course in July 2013, he was originally not in work and registered as unemployed.

Please read his written testimonial below:

On my lift training course, we built a lift control panel and took part in some learning to help us get a job.

I had around 8 or 9 job interviews, and Training Centre Direct helped me with talking to the lift employer, and I'm happy to say that I have got a full time job with a lift employer.

This new job is really good as I am now learning about new lift installations and I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't get the help and job interviews from Training Centre Direct.

Michael Delldott.

Thomas, 21, was a not in work and last worked as a lifeguard at the start of our new lift engineer training in July 2013.

Please read his written testimonial below:

I completed a government grant lift training course and with their help I managed to get a permanent full time job with a Hertfordshire based lift installation company.

Within the training I received, I had approx 8 job interviews and each interview gave me more confidence to speak with employers, and when it really mattered, it helped me to secure my job.

I would like to thank everyone at Training Centre Direct for their help and support so that I am no not unemployed.

Luke, 18, was seeking a lift engineer apprenticeship when he met him in July 2013.

Please read his written testimonial below:

I was given the opportunity to do a 3 day introductory event for lift engineering with TCD July 2013.

TCD helped me gain interest and knowledge in lift engineering. I recently just left an electrical company where I was an apprentice, however it was not a place I could progress. TCD helped set up an interview with a local lift employer and they gave me the confidence and training to help successfully get an apprenticeship with the lift company.

I am very grateful for the time and effort TCD put in, without their help I wouldn't of had the opportunity to work as an apprentice lift engineer.

Luke Greenslade.

Humphrey, 42, was a removal man that was previously out of work and completed our new lift engineer training course in July 2013.

Please read his written testimonial below:

Training Centre Direct has been great, I've completed a four week training course and saw lots of lift engineers and I've now been taken on. I'm now working on my NVQ Level 2 and will be fully qualified in two years time.

Without Training Centre Directs help and support I wouldn't have this job opportunity. They helped me get around eight interviews in the final week of their course. I've learned many new skills with electrical engineering and also installation of lifts as well. My future is much brighter now that I am in work.

Thanks again for all your help!

Humphrey Walker.

Jason, 39, was out of work for 5 years with little prospect of finding any vacancies on his own, so he came on our fully funded training course.

Please read his written testimonial below:

I was out of work for 5 years and came across this lift engineer training course through m y job centre and applied to go on the course.

I passed the selection test and got a place on the course. It was 4 weeks covering 2 weeks in the classroom and 2 weeks working onsite. TCD and their staff managed to get a lot of lift employers to the training centre, I think I had about 12 job interviews.

I am now working for JCW Lift Installations and work in the London area. I also got a free PPE kit bag and work wear ready for my new employment, they couldn’t do enough or me. Thank you to all the staff at TCD for helping me get my new lift job.

Jason McQueen.

Darren, 45, was a not working at the start of our new lift engineer training course in July 2013, after being made redundant as a cabinet maker.

Please read his written testimonial below:

I didn't think that I would be able to get a permanent job in the lift industry because of my age being over 40 years. I'm pleased to say that with the help of Training Centre Direct, I have managed to get a job on lift repairs.

They introduced me to lots of lift employers and over a period of 5 days, I had attended 10 interviews, this helped me a great deal when eventually working for the lift company.

The training included a site visit to a lift distributor and I took part in lots of practical training on how lifts work and different fault diagnoses to repair them to.

Thanks again to Training Centre Direct.

Darren Burton.

Kobby, 25, was not working when being accepted onto the lift engineer training course with skills limited to retail.

Please read his written testimonial below:

Initially being told about a lift engineering straining course I was a bit sceptical about whether or not to attend, but being out of work for so long decided to give it a go. The introduction of the course appealed to me and I suddenly found myself interested.

Being out of work for over a year, I started the course which helped me get interviews and a job at the end with Avante Elevators, a lift installation company where I was able to put the things that I learnt in the course to practice.

I thank TCD for their help, support and free work wear they gave us, it was very helpful.

Kobby Asihene.

Alex, 21, was previously digging up the roads before being made redundant and completed our new lift engineer training course in July 2013 - he is now studying with Bromley College.

Please read his written testimonial below:

After finishing a lift engineer training course funded by the government when I was registered with the job centre, I was able to get a new job as an apprentice lift engineer thanks to the help of Training Centre Direct (TCD).

TCD helped me with training and approx 8 to 9 job interviews with local employers who were all interested in the new skills I had just learnt, and I now work as an apprentice lift engineer.

I now work all over London area repairing and maintaining lifts and work with other lift engineers on the company. I would like to thank TCD for all their hard work as without them I wouldn't have this opportunity.

Alex Roberts.

Jon, 40 was out of work for 5 years and struggling to get interviews on his own until he completed our training.

Please read his written testimonial below:

Before coming onto the course I was applying for many jobs handing out my CV weekly to other firms, cold calling and using email, but it had not worked.

I was unemployed for 5 years and was advised to try the lift mates training course. For 4 weeks covering classroom and onsite training leading to a job at the end of the teaching, the staff were very helpful.

There were 13 or 14 interviews and I got selected by Emerald Elevators. I am really enjoying my new job and relishing the new challenge. Thanks to all the TCD staff for the trip out and the classroom learning and the time spent helping me with my work

Jon Taylor.

Jake 19, who had just finished an electrical installation course was desperately looking for a career in the lift industry attended a course provided by TCD.

Please read his written testimonial below:

I would like to give a massive thanks to Training Centre Direct (TCD) for supplying me with the opportunity to get my foot in the door with a well respected lift company.

Leading up to the interview they were great as they kept dropping me phone calls to see how I was getting on and checking if I was preparing for it using the information they provided.

I believe without TCD's help I would not of been successful in my interview.

Garry, 60, had not been working for nearly 2 years and though he would not get any work as he was near to retirement.

Please read his written testimonial below:

Before coming onto the course I was out of work for 2 years, I did have previous electrical experience but knew nothing about lifts and elevators or how the lift industry operated. I was registered with the job centre and came across a new lift mate training course and immediately put my name down. I managed to get picked and have never looked back.

Training Centre Direct not only put on the course, but they also got lift employers down to the classroom and must have had over a dozen interviews. I lost count after the 2nd day as the employers were coming in almost every hour, and sometimes two at a time.

Thank you very much to all the staff at TCD (and the free work wear) as without this course and their help I wouldn’t have got this chance. I now work for a local firm called Liftworks and now assist them in installing passenger lifts all over the London area.

Garry Turner.

Kieron, 20, was out of work and previously in unskilled work on low pay with no job prospects and managed to get full time work.

Please read his written testimonial below:

I was really excited to come on the lift engineer training course as I have been out of work. The staff there helped me by teaching me how a lift works and by helping me build a working lift control panel from individual components.

I had more than 10 interviews and with help Elan Lifts employed me. They work all over London and now I’m installing new lifts.

During the course we were intruded to lots of different staff members and a visit to a distributor which helped me underpin the magnitude of the lift industry. I also got certificated from TCD as well and received free PPE.

A big thank you to all the staff at TCD.

Kieron Bradley.

Anthony, 34, was previously an out of work roofer for over a year before he enrolled on our Government funded training course.

Please read his written testimonial below:

I never once thought about being a lift engineer until I started with Training Centre Direct. I am now in work and working for Total Elevator Services.

The training was given by Training Centre Direct included two weeks in the class and two weeks onsite. I had more than a dozen job interviews which was more than I got at the job centre. While in the class we learnt the safe procedures on getting on and off the top of lift cars, some basic wiring and lots of theory about lifts.

I am very grateful to TCD for this opportunity and would like to thank all the staff

Anthony Leigh.

Jamie, 36, worked in removals and was in and out of work for years with no real job prospects.

Please read his written testimonial below:

I was signing on at the job centre without much hope as I was out of work for about a year. I got a place on the lift engineer training course and completed the 4 weeks training. They taught me about electrical circuits and how lifts worked over 4 weeks. Two weeks were in the classroom and two weeks onsite with a lift company.

I got a job with Ascendit Lifts and they are a specialised stair lift company and also install platform lifts. I am working alongside a qualified lift engineer and learning more aspects to the lift trade.

Training Centre Direct were really good, as the staff there helped me with the job interviews, I must have had at least 11 or 12 job interviews during the 2nd week. I would like to thank the staff at TCD for this and also the PPE they gave to me, as I would probably still be unemployed or in a job that had no potential to improve my earnings.

Jamie Careswell.
